Day 2 Game Jam progress

The whole team has been busy and we've made massive updates to the system. We encountered an issue where the increase in map and wall details caused the maps to take much longer to create than they were before. Rather than scrap it or look for other solutions or reduce complexity I taught another team member how to use the map creator so that we could double team it and knock it out faster. We have a fairly big map in mind and want to make sure that every piece of it can be built and filled to the brim with traps, treasure, and NPC interactions.

The big focus of today was the look and feel of the game. This meant taking hours coming up with and implementing more animations and improving the usage and rendering of wall and floor textures. It also meant honing in even more on UI elements and planning out what we want to include for a finalized UI as well as working on improvements to combat. We also decided to vary up floors a lot more and spent hours refining texture applications to make it easier to not get lost and it makes it more fun to see the differences between grid squares. It also looks a lot nicer.

Our composer has been knocking it out of the park and I can't wait to share their work with the world. The rest of the sound team has also been busy and we've compiled over 100 sounds that are new and unique to this game, including ambient sounds, enemy effects and more. We want every action to feel exciting and are focused on polishing the game as much as possible.

Storyboarding also took a front seat today and we have a good idea of how we want the story to progress. Now comes tuning it and refining it to create a really unique experience.

Overall, I'm super impressed by what the team has managed to come up with in only 2 days. We have a functional game that's actually pretty fun to play already. Check it out and let us know what you think!
